India defeated England by 7 wickets in the final of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in Potchefstroom on Sunday, claiming the country’s first ICC title in women’s cricket. While the senior women’s team has yet to win a world tournament, the U19 team did so in the U19 T20 World Cup’s inaugural season.
The Shafali Verma-led side bowled England out for 68 after opting to bowl first. While Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parshavi Chopra each took two wickets, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Mannat Kashyap each took one. Aside from their clinical bowling performance, the team was outstanding on the field overall, causing a run out and taking a few superb catches, with the wicketkeeper also causing a stumping.
Despite losing captain Shafali and leading run-scorer Shweta Sehrawat early on, the Women in Blue finished with 36 balls to spare.
