The Central Bureau of India busted a sub-area manager of Western Coalfields Limited’s Ghonsa mine in Wani’s Yavatmal district. A delivery order was given to one company in exchange for the first instalment of a 3.20 lakh bribe, which led to the arrest. The CBI’s anti-corruption team made the arrest.
The manager in question is Gautam Basutkar. The relevant company had permission to remove 8,200 MT of coal from the mine. However, the company managed to hoist 4,623 MT of coal. To lift the remaining coal, the concerned firm requested a delivery order. But Basutkar rebuffed the request and demanded payment in kind. The manager sought payment in exchange for earlier assistance and a delivery order to lift 2,500 MT .
The officials of the concerned firm did not want to give bribes, so they lodged a complaint with the CBI. The CBI verified the complaint and laid a trap. Basutkar was caught red handed while accepting the first instalment of 1 lakh.
