Former Senate member of Rashtrasan Tukadopji Maharaj Nagpuer University has opposed the conduct of the University’s budget meeting scheduled for March 9. The elections for the ten posts from the Graduates Constituency are scheduled to be held on March 19 and counting on March 21.
The budget meeting of the Senate on March 9, will be conducted without participation of the ten elected members from this constituency.
Adv Manmohan Bajpayi, former Senate member has demanded that the Senate meeting may be held only after March 21, so that the ten elected members can participate.
Adv Bajpayi has written a letter to the Governor and Chancellor of the University Bhagat Singh Koshyari in connection with the demand. The Chancellor is the chairperson of the Senate and the dates of the meeting is finalised with his consent.
The Senate is of 74 members, including 41 elected and 33 nominated or ex-officio members. Out of the 41 elected members, 10 are from the Principals’ constituency, Six from College Management, the President and Secretary of the University Students Council, 10 are from the Teachers’ constituency and the rest 10 are from the registered graduates’ constituency.
Besides 10 representatives of the registered graduates of the university, the Students Council has not been formed as yet. Adv Bajpayi, therefore, has demanded that the meeting may be deferred and conducted after March 21. He has also alleged that the meeting is being held before the March 19 polls purposefully by the Vice-Chancellor, to avoid confrontation with the vociferous members of the last Senate, who are again contesting the polls.
