The construction work of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Convention Center on Kamptee Road is in the final stage. The project is likely to be inaugurated on April 14.
Ahead of the grand opening on Wednesday, the social welfare officials inspected and reviewed the work here and directed Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to complete the necessary work by March 15.
This convention center of international standards is coming up on 7,500 square metre land of NIT. A fund of 131.68 crore has been sanctioned for this project and 113.74 crore has been spent so far. Administrative approval has been received for the increased expenditure of 14.94 crores. This fund will soon be transferred to NIT.
The main attraction of this cen- tre is a 40 feet tall statue of Dr Ambedkar. This statue is made of bronze and can be seen directly from the highway outside. Initially this statue was going to cost 2 crores but after Covid its price in- creased. Now the cost is 5 crores. The additional cost of 3 crores will be approved soon.
