Sameer Khakhar, a veteran actor, died at the age of 71. Sameer’s brother Ganesh confirmed his death and added that Sameer died on Wednesday due to multiple organ failure.
“He experienced some respiratory issues yesterday morning, we called the doctor home and asked to get him admitted. So we took him to the hospital and he was admitted to the intensive care unit. He then suffered multiple organ failures and died today at 4.30 am.” Ganesh said.
Following the tragic news, filmmaker Hasan Mehta paid a heartfelt tribute. “In college, I was dubbed ‘Khopdi,’ after his iconic character in Nukkad. My old friends still call me ‘Khopdi’. But I guess it’s time to say goodbye to the original. Goodbye Sameer Khakhar “Many thanks for the memories,” he wrote.
Sameer Khakhar worked for nearly four decades. He became well-known for his roles in the television shows Nukkad and Circus. He also appeared in the films Shrimaan Shrimati’ and ‘Adalat’. He also appeared in films such as ‘Hasee Toh Phasee,’ ‘Jai Ho,’ and ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi’. He was most recently seen in the OTT series Farzi, starring Shahid Kapoor.
