Director Pradeep Sarkar,known for making films like Parineeta, Helicopter Eela and Mardaani, has passed away.
He was 67. Director Hansal Mehta took to Twitter to share the news with his followers.
Sarkar was known for his work in the ad film industry. He also shot the now iconic music videos of songs like Euphoria’s ‘Dhoom Pichak Dhoom’ and ‘Maaeri’, and Shubha Mudgal’s ‘Ab Ke Saawan’, among many others in the 1990s and early 2000s.
He started working in the movies with Rajkumar Hirani and was credited as the co- editor of Munna Bhai MBBS. His first directorial film was Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt stareer Parineeta. Sarkar then directed Laaga Chunari Mein Daag starring Rani Mukerji, Konkona Sensharma and Abhishek Bachchan. His directorials also include Lafangey Parindey, Mardaani and Helicopter Eela. Helicopter Eela, which starred Kajol, was his last film. He recently directed the ZEE5 web series Duranga.
In October 2022, Kangana Ranaut announced that she would be playing the lead role in his upcoming film Noti Binodini.
