Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has introduced Honours (Major) and Minor Degree courses in the domain of emerging areas. These emerging areas are prescribed by SWAYAM/ National Programme on Technology Enhancement Learning (NPTEL), an online portal launched by Central Government’s Ministry of Education.
Dr P B Maheshwary, Dean of Science and Technology of RTMNU said, “This is a great initiative of Ministry of Education where students can do the online courses through SWAYAM and NPTEL on their own, free of cost. These courses are job-oriented. Even industries too are employing candidates who have done such courses. Most engineering colleges under RTMNU have started these courses.”
RTMNU is conducting courses like semiconductor electronics, photonics, sensors, material sciences and many other. All these courses are available on the portal. There are 54 domains with 12 courses on each portal.”
According to sources the University has established the Incubation Centre in 2019

under Section 8 of Companies Act, 2013 to promote innovation and incubate them for startups to become successful entrepreneurs. We have 12 startups in different fields, including Robotics, Automation, such as Drone Services and Technology IoT, Healthcare, etc. and expanding to accommodate more startups. Entrepreneurship framing has been started under the Training Placement Cell.
Currently, RTMNU’s National Institutional Ranking Framework’s (NIRF) overall ranking is in the range of 150- 200, while Pharmacy Department’s ranking is 39 and LIT ranking 126.
To improve overall NIRF ranking, the university has initiated few steps. They include increasing library budget, workshop maintenance budget, floating various corporate training programmes through IQAC and life-long learning platform, increase number of patents and research publications by providing special appreciation to the faculties involved in it, informed VC to House.
