The Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chief Executive Officer, Saumya Sharma, has ordered all ZP school administration to install “Snellen Charts” in well-lit rooms on campus in order to regularly examine students’ eyes. wrote to schools about this.
All elementary and secondary schools in the district have health checks done on the students by the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) team. Also included in the checkup is an eye exam. Sharma emphasised the need for routine eye exams for students in schools by pointing out that the RBSK team only performed such an examination once or twice a year.
Accordingly, Sharma asked the schools to install the ‘Snellen Chart’ in a well-lit room on respective campuses so that eye problems of students could be detected early on. This will help in offering guidance and treatment on time. Ultimately, this exercise will ensure that there is no hurdle in their learning process.
For this purpose, the ZP administration has asked the schools to appoint a nodal teacher. All Headmasters have been asked to arrange for the installation of the ‘Snellen Chart’. They can procure the chart as prescribed procedure.
The chart has been uploaded on ZP’s website. The charts are available in English, Marathi, and General, and are also available in optical shops or medical equipment shops, stated Sharma in her letter to the schools.
