The city secured first place in the Maharashtra government’s first state-level city beautification and cleanliness competition in 2022.
Thane Municipal Corporation came in second, with Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation coming in third among A+, A, and B-grade municipal corporations in the state.
On Thursday, the winners of the state-level tournament were unveiled at a ceremony in Mumbai.
Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B of the NMC was awarded Rs 15 crore by CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
The competition was judged on four criteria: attractive waterfront, beautiful green spaces, beautiful tourism or heritage attractions, and beautiful markets and commercial areas. Each of the four categories was given a 25% weighting.
The state requested a 15-slide presentation detailing the city’s work during the competition period and categorizing it according to the four parameters. Municipal commissioners and chief executive officers from the cities and towns that competed submitted the presentation.
NMC highlighted some clean and beautiful sites in its presentation, including Raj Bhavan, Deekshabhoomi, Futala Lake, Railway Station, Ambazari Lake, Freedom Park, and the RBI Building, among others.
