In a bid to minimise accidents on the Samruddhi expressway, Rural RTO has decided to allow only vehicles having functional reflectors to access the expressway.
Officials are studying different causes of accidents on Samruddhi expressway and taking corrective action. Due to oppressive heat during the day, more people are using Samruddhi at night. Having functional reflectors on the vehicles is important to increase the visibility of vehicles for those coming from behind.
The expressway has seen an upsurge in nighttime traffic. “Reflectors” are important for allowing vehicles to keep a safe distance at night. A campaign to penalise drivers whose vehicles don’t have proper reflectors with 1,000 has also begun.
In the last two days, RTO Nagpur Rural has penalised 20 vehicles for not having proper reflectors. They were released only when reflectors were installed. RTO personnel are putting reflector paint with reflector tape on such vehicles before allowing them to proceed.
This is a great initiative by the authorities as there have been several fatal accidents on the said highway. People have died and suffered injuries as vehicles driving at high speeds collided with either a stationary vehicle or into a wall.
