A 53-year-old patient suffering from cirrhosis successfully underwent a life-saving living donor liver transplant at Wockhardt Hospitals in Nagpur. The patient’s son selflessly donated a portion of his liver, inspired by the noble cause.
Leading the surgical team was liver transplant surgeon Professor Tom Cherian. Mahendra Asati, the patient, was in a critical condition with only a 10% chance of survival without the transplant. Despite facing health complications and the possibility of postponement, Asati remained positive and insisted on proceeding with the procedure.
Thanks to his optimistic outlook, his son’s dedication, and the efforts of the medical team, Asati experienced a remarkable recovery within just 10 days post-surgery. Dr. Cherian emphasized the significance of living donors in facilitating immediate transplants, offering hope to many others in need.
