Several women’s hostels in Nagpur are neglected by the government. A recent inspection by the State Women’s Commission revealed alarming conditions of the city’s women’s hostels.
Abha Pandey, a member of the State Women’s Commission, inspected women’s hostel in the city on Friday, with a group of journalists, following an incident at Mumbai’s Savitri Bai Phule hostel.
During the inspection, it was found that hostel walls were damaged, enabling easy access to stray dogs which occupied the toilets. Inadequate security measures were observed, with no guards present. Basic amenities were lacking, such as coolers in the scorching heat. The garbage piled up at the back of the hostels, despite a clean front area. These findings raise serious concerns about the government’s commitment to protecting women in hostels, demanding immediate action for improvement.
