A sick person who ordered medicines from the ‘online’ website was cheated of four lakh rupees. The person concerned overpaid the delivery boy by mistake. Searching for the number on Google to claim back the remaining money cost him dearly. The incident took place within the limits of Rana Pratapnagar police station.
The person concerned has been identified as Sureshchandra Lingaya Borha, 65 and resident of Naik Layout. Sureshchandra, who retired from the Water Resources Department, cannot see anything with his right eye and has undergone surgery for his left eye. He had ordered the necessary medicines from Amazon on June 7. Instead of Rs. 1200, he mistakenly paid Rs. 2500 to the delivery boy. When he realized this, he searched for the customer care number on Google and called the number. He demanded to get the remaining amount back and was following up continuously.
On June 10, he received a call from a person who said he was speaking from customer care, assuring him to return the money. He asked Sureshchandra for the bank account details. The person on the call asked the victim to download the AnyDesk app and asked for its code. With the help of caretaker Aparna, Sureshchandra proceeded, and within no time, he received a message from his bank mentioning that Rs. 2 lakhs had been debited from his account twice. When Sureshchandra called the person who posed as the customer care executive, the assailant hung up the phone, giving a curt reply. After that, the phone was switched off. Finally, Sureshchandra filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell. The police have registered a case against the unknown accused.
