Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Working President, Supriya Sule, has voiced concerns over the rising cost of school supplies, placing an additional burden on parents. Sule urged Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to consider exempting Goods and Services Tax (GST) on these items.
According to the NCP MP, prices of school supplies have soared by 35-40% this year alone, exacerbating the financial strain caused by inflation. Sule took to Twitter to express her plea, stating that exempting GST on school supplies would lead to reduced prices, making them more affordable for everyone.
“In the past few years, the cost of school supplies has increased tremendously. This year too, school materials have become expensive by 35 to 40 per cent. On the one hand, while the fire of inflation has already flared up, the parents have to work hard due to the increase in the price of school materials,” she said in a tweet.
The MP highlighted the significant increase in the cost of school materials over the past few years, emphasizing the need for immediate action. Sule believes that if the government withdraws GST on school supplies, it will alleviate the financial burden faced by parents. She requested the Finance Minister to waive GST on all types of school supplies, thereby reducing costs and making them accessible to the common man.
