Adani Foundation took its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to neighboring villages of the proposed Gondkhiari Underground Mining Project by Adani Power Maharashtra Limited in Nagpur. The villages of Gondkhairi, Waddhamna, Surabardi, Alesur, Sahuli and Kalambi will benefit immensely from Adani Foundation’s CSR programmes coupled with thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities to be generated by the underground mining project.
Adani Foundation has designed the programme with a focus on health and hygiene, education and empowerment and rural infrastructure among others. The Foundation has prepared a detailed CSR plan after a three-month study and survey of about 4,000 households in the six villages near the Gondkhairi underground mine. The Adani Foundation engaged the Centum Foundation, which deployed a team of ten surveyors to map education infrastructure, public health status, community infrastructure and youth aspirations.
On Wednesday, the Foundation began its CSR initiatives with the first health camp in Gandhari, where three doctors from Mission India Hospital, specialising in gynecology, general medicine and dentistry, examined patients and provided free medicines. During the coming week, similar health camps will be organised in Alesur and Kalambi gram panchayat areas. In addition, Adani Foundation has prepared to distribute hundreds of school bags, water filters, musical instruments, sports equipment and plants, which will benefit thousands of people in the people of Gondkhairi, Waddhamna, Surabardi, Alesur, Sahuli and Kalambi.
On the health camp, Mrs. Varsha Vijay Atkari, Sarpanch, Gondkhairi said, “The medical camp was particularly helpful for the needy people who cannot travel to consult specialist doctors. The villagers also benefited from the advice of expert doctors. We look forward to the similar public welfare programmes by Adani Power in our village.” He said that the health camp would also spread awareness among the villagers when cases of disease are on the rise during monsoon. The health camp was successfully organised in the presence of Village Development Officer Mr Hitendra Phule, Dr. Reggie Lukose, Director, Mission India Charitable Hospital and Dr. BO Tayde, Director, Mission India Charitable Hospital.
It is noteworthy that Adani Power Maharashtra’s project will not involve any resettlement of local people as only 18 hectares of land will be required for development of the underground mine spread across 862 hectares. Due to non-requirement of forest land for the development of Gondkhairi block, there will be no adverse impact on the local environment. Also there will be no explosives use in this mine project.
