At least 13 people died as a container driver lost control over it and crashed into a hotel, on Mumbai-Agra Highway near Dhule in Maharashtra. Twenty others were injured, some of them seriously. The number of deceased is likely to increase looking at the condition of the injured.
The incident took place around 10.30 am on Tuesday near Palasner village in Dhule District. As per preliminary information, the container driver lost control due to the failure of its brakes. The driver could not control the vehicle as the spot of the accident is at a steep slope.
The brakes of the container failed on the border of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh near the Satpuda mountain range. Before crashing into a hotel, the container is learned to have hit some vehicles. Some of the people in the vehicles are also suspected to have died.
