The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of seven judges for the positions of Chief Justice in seven different High Courts. The recommendations were made by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sanjiv Khanna during a collegium meeting.
If approved by the Centre, the High Court of Gujarat will have its first woman, Chief Justice, as Justice Sunita Agarwal has been proposed for the position. The other recommended appointments include Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya as Chief Justice of the High Court of Bombay, Justice Alok Aradhe as Chief Justice of the High Court for Telangana, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur as Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, Justice Siddharth Mridul as Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, Justice Subhasis Talapatra as Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa, and Justice Ashish J Desai as Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala. The Collegium stated that these judges were suitable for the positions and recommended their appointment.
