The Gadchiroli Police have arrested two suspects who helped Naxalites exchange 2000 notes illegally.
The names of the arrested accused are Rohit Mangu Korsa (24, District Dhodur, District Etapalli) and Biplav Gitish Sikdar (24, District Panawar, District Kanker, Chhattisgarh). During the raid, police recovered 27 lakh 62 thousand rupees from both of them, including 2000 notes.
Naxalites are in a panic mode after the decision to stop the 2000 note from circulation. They are constantly trying to convert the amount recovered from extortion. They are finding it difficult to exchange these notes.
According to the information received, both the accused persons were going on a motorcycle, when the police stopped them in Aheri and searched them. They found Rs 27 lakh 62 thousand with them. This includes 607 Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 12 lakh 14 thousand, 3072 Rs 500 notes worth Rs 16 lakh 36 thousand and 7 Rs 200 notes worth Rs 1 thousand 400.
Police said that during interrogation, both of them told that this money was given to the Naxalites. A case has been registered against both of them under the UAPA Act.
