The members of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University’s Senate are not happy with the manner in which its meeting is being held on Thursday (July 20). The items on the agenda have already been cleared by the Vice-Chancellor under powers vested in him under the Maharashtra Public Universities Act.
The University’s Perspective Plan is a major issue, which the Senate members were interested in discussion. Meanwhile, the University has issued a clarification on the issue. The VC was required to clear the Perspective Plan as required by the government. Convening a meeting of the Senate in a hurry was not possible for the University. On Thursday the Senate is only required to confirm the steps taken by the VC.
Frustrated over the alleged mismanagement in the University several letters have been addressed to the Chancellor. The issues relating to the mismanagement and alleged corruption in the University were also raised in the Legislative Council on Tuesday. MLCs Pravin Datke and Adv Abhijit Wanjari demanded action against the VC Dr Subhash Chaudhari. Minister for Higher and Technical Education Chandrakant Patil said that the Chancellor being the appointing authority, he alone can initiate action against a VC.
