A rare Bloody Owl was spotted on Friday in a roadside bush in front of Rambagh Colony. The owl’s health was not good. It is said to be the first time that an owl has been found in such a condition.
Imran Shaikh’s DS Royal Enfield Service Center is located in the Rambagh area and first spotted the rare bird. He said a large number of crows appeared in the sky. When he looked closer into the bush he found a big wild owl. it was noticed that the owl was sick. As the claws of the owl were very large, it was safely taken out and handed over to the forest department for urgent treatment.
The owl is a rare breed of “mottled wood owl”. It is protected under schedule-1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
The distinguishing mark of the hemorrhaging owl is its white and red markings on the upper side, while the underside is whitish with dark brown lines and reddish-brown spots and stripes. The pale flat face has black circular lines and dark eyes. The main food of this owl is carrion, small reptiles, mice, lizards, crabs, insects. This bird is nocturnal and lives in bushes and forest areas.
