A complaint against Sambhaji Bhide has been lodged in Amravati for making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi.
Indian National Congress workers lodged a complaint with the police on Friday. Bhide’s controversial comments about Mahatma Gandhi are being condemned across the nation. Bhide made comments about Mahatma Gandhi’s patriarchy, which evoked strong criticism.
Many Congress leaders demanded that Bhide should be immediately arrested. Formerf Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan, MPCC President Nana Patole, former ministers Yashimati Thakur, Vijay Wadettiwar and others demanded that Bhide should be arrested immediately.
Bhide’s derogatory remarks hurt the feelings of people. Regional Unit Secretary Nandkishor Kuyate lodged a complaint with Rajapeth Police Station in Amravati. Party workers in Yavatmal and Pune staged demonstrations against Bhide.
Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi said, ‘How can progressive Maharashtra remain calm over such remarks of Sambhaji Bhide?” Responding to BHujide’s statement Tushar Gandhi could not control tears in his eyes.
The issue was also raised in the Legislative Assembly on Friday. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured enquiry into the issue.
Congress party workers are opposing the proposed lecture by Bhide in Yavatmal. The situation in Yavatmal was tense. Tight security arrangements have been made in Yavatmal. Several organizations demanded that Bhide should not be allowed to enter Yavatmal.
