An air passenger was robbed of his wallet, cell phone, laptop and other goods worth Rs 2.61 lakh at the Nagpur airport by his fellow passengers.
Sonegaon Police have registered an offence against 3 persons from Chhattisgarh.
As per report, Pankaj Murde (28) a resident of Gayatri Nagar, Koradi was traveling to Pune by an early morning flight on August 8. Murde forgot to pick up his belongings including his wallet containing Rs 10,000/- after his mandatory security check where he had placed these items in a tray for security scanning. He boarded the flight and realized that he had forgotten his belongings at the airport.
Unknown to him, three passengers sitting in the row behind him in the aircraft had picked up his stuff and coolly walked away. As he didn’t raise a hue and cry at the Nagpur airport, they kept mum and after deboarding at Pune went their way.
Murde, meanwhile, got in touch with the security personnel at the Pune airport and apprised them of his neglectful loss. They got in touch with their counterparts here and soon, after checking the CCTV footage, confirmed that three fellow air passengers. had taken the goods. Murde then got in touch with officials at the Nagpur airport and was advised to go to the police.
The Sonegaon police too checked the CCTV footage and after identifying the ‘flying’ thieves got in touch with them. They reportedly gave evasive replies and tried to hoodwink the cops. The police continued to contact them but on finding them unresponsive, registered offenses under relevant sections against them.
They have been identified as Sahil Raja (25), Atalsi (27) and Sanjay Yadav (27) all from Chhattisgarh.
The CCTV recordings show them coming behind Murde for their security clearance and placing their laptop and other belongings in a security tray along with him. They had a laptop each and collected the same. When they found Murde hurrying off, they filched his laptop and other goods including the wallet from Murde’s tray.
The police have said that they are investigating the theft and that the accused will soon be brought to book. They said that one of them had admitted to having the laptop but denied touching the other belongings. Further investigations are on.
