Previously this year, in Krishnagiri district, an altercation over the improper usage of drinking water resulted in the death of an Army jawan by beating at the hands of a DMK councillor, his sons, and relatives. The attack happened on February 8 and the jawan passed away a day later in a hospital in Hosur. The councilman and eight other people were detained by police after the incident came to light.
The deceased, M. Prabhu, 28, of Nagojanahalli, and his brother, Prabhakaran, 30, were both jawans who had returned home on leave following their deployment in Srinagar, according to the police. Prabhakaran served in the artillery, while Prabhu was in the military police. The conflict began on February 8 when Prabhakaran’s wife Priya, 25, was reprimanded by Nagojanahalli Town Panchayat Councillor R Chinnasamy, 50, for washing clothes at a public drinking water tap.
