A man committed suicide by jumping into the Kanhan River. He was fed up with being blackmailed by his girlfriend and her family. They had demanded Rs 5 lakh from the deceased and threatened to press charges of rape if the money was not paid. The young man jumped into the river after making a live video on Facebook.
On the complaint of the deceased’s brother, the police have registered a case against four people and arrested them.
According to the information received from the police, the deceased is said to be Manish alias Raj Yadav, a resident of Kalamna. Manish is a businessman and is survived by his wife and 3 children. Information has come to light about his love affair with a 19-year-old girl living in the same village. On September 6, the girl had gone missing from her house. Her family members had accused Raj of eloping with the girl.
On Sunday, Raj made a live video on Facebook in which he took the names of a girl named Kajal, her father Naresh, her mother Gudiya and photo studio operator Ramesh. Raj told in the video that the family has been falsely accusing him of rape for the last several days. He threatened to implicate her in a rape case and Rs 5 lakh is being demanded from him.
As soon as this video ended, the young man committed suicide by jumping into the river. Later, Kamptee police recovered the body and registered a case. However, since a missing case of the girl was already registered at Kalamna police station, the investigation of the case was later handed over to Kalamna police. Kalamana police have arrested four accused in this case.
