For laying a drinking water pipeline, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is digging a Cement road. NMC had concretized the stretch of Ram Nagar Square to hill road a year ago.
NMC, which is laying drinking water pipeline under Central government’s AMRUT scheme, has started cutting and digging cement concrete from Ram Nagar square to Hill road circle.
It is the second such big stretch of concretized part in the city that is being dug up. Earlier, Telangkhedi Hanuman Mandir concretized Road were damaged for pipeline.
Almost all government agencies are removing paver block laid along cement roads for laying, replacing or repairing different types of utilities.
NMC engineers claimed there was no alternate route for drinking water pipeline. This was the best route to execute the project with less damage. The work will ensure drinking water supply to many localities,” they said.
Terming it as a loss of public money and minerals, Rajat Padole from NGO Nagpur Citizens Forum said this could have been avoided had proper planning been done before concretization. “The loss should be recovered from consultant and engineers, and repairs should be done by contractor under defect liability period. These measures will prevent such losses in future,” he said.
Padole pointed out that restoration is never done properly and it is citizens who face inconvenience.
