The Central Archaeological Survey has rejected the claim that an idol of a goddess was found in the ground in Samta nagar. After inspecting the idol, the ASI found it to be new. The ASI has claimed that the idol did not come out of the ground but was kept here.
The idol was found on a garbage dump. Garbage of plastic, shoes, slippers have been found around and under it. The depth of ground excavation is less than this 51 cm high and 35 cm wide idol. Digging started at Ishwar Ganesh Mohbe’s Plot No.18 near Raja Bhoj Chowk in Samta nagar on Tuesday around 6 pm. He bought this plot from a person named Katre. Although the Mohbes do not live here, a small hut has been built here. Trees have been planted in the remaining open spaces. after digging about one foot three inches, the idol was found, the workers said. After that, the video of finding the idol in Samtanagar went viral on social media. After that, people gathered here. Along with locals, people from far away started coming to have darshan. Even on Wednesday there was a crowd here.
Under the guidance of Naib Tehsildar, Sunil Sadve, and Archaeologist Arun Malik, Superintendent of Nagpur Circle of the Central Archaeological Survey Department, the team of the Archeology Department reached the spot on Wednesday evening under heavy police security. On inspection, Arun Malik told that the idol was new. The idol is only 5 to 10 years old.
The idol is currently in police custody. ASI will conduct further investigation.
