International Food Day is observed on October 16 every year. The day is celebrated with the aim of shedding light on the millions of people globally who lack the means to afford a nutritious diet and the crucial necessity of consistent access to wholesome food.
Nutrition is essential for individuals, and everyone should have access to proper food. This is one of the basic human rights. Unfortunately, there are millions of people around the globe who don’t have access to healthy food and water. World Food Day focuses on raising awareness on the importance and taking up initiatives to ensure that every person on this planet is given access to proper nutrition and proper food. Ensuring food safety and security and combating hunger are also the focus of celebrating World Food Day.
Every year, a large number of events – from marathons and hunger marches to exhibitions, cultural performances, contests, and concerts – are organized in around 150 countries across the world to celebrate World Food Day.
To raise awareness among residents all around the globe about the importance of food and water organisations join hands. Food and Agriculture Organisations of the United States gave a message to the people all around by quoting “Water is life, water is food. Leave no one behind. “Water is essential to life on Earth. It covers the majority of the Earth’s surface, makes up over 50% of our bodies, produces our food, and supports livelihoods. But this precious resource is not infinite, and we need to stop taking it for granted. What we eat, and how that food is produced all affect water. Together, we can take water action for food and be the change.”
