The Nagpur Municipal Corporation is embarrassed after discovering that five of its employees stole batteries from the organization’s headquarters in Civil Lines. Angered by a spate of battery thefts that had occurred on the seventh floor of the NMC Headquarters over the past 15 days, officials decided to carefully examine CCTV footage in an effort to find the offenders.
NMCs information technology department thoroughly examined the CCTV footage of the incident that occurred 15 days back. The probe revealed that employees responsible for building maintenance and cleanliness were involved in the battery thefts. Based on the evidence, these employees were identified, and orders were issued to suspend five of them.
The suspended employees included sanitation workers associated with building maintenance: Tushar Tomaskar, Kapil Shiv, Aniket Timane, Rishabh Janavre and Sahil Delaka. Following an extensive 15-day investigation and scrutiny by senior officials from the general admin- istration department, the accused employees were suspended.
The seventh floor of the NMC’s new administrative building houses the Smart City office. In order to provide an uninterrupted power supply during power outages, UPS batteries were put there. The general administration department was formally notified once it was revealed that some of these batteries had been taken. The identity of the thieves were successfully determined with the use of CCTV footage.
For building maintenance, the municipal headquarters had hired thirty sanitation employees, all working under the guidance of executive engineers, project engineers.
