A Pune man was duped by a dating app scam, which resulted in a hefty Rs 22,000 restaurant bill, in an odd incident. The man is now the most recent online daters’ cautionary tale. He first shared his experience on the X platform, which was formerly Twitter.
The narrative started on September 30 of this year when the man discovered a match on the well-known dating app, Bumble.
The two agreed to get together in October at Bhugaon, Pune’s Gypsy Restro Bar. He had no idea that this seemingly routine date would become quite expensive.
He was shocked to learn later that the single wine glass cost Rs 1,500, the wine bottle cost Rs 15,000, and the hookah cost Rs 10,000. The printed bill arrived, showing a total of Rs 22,000 in value.
The date demanded that he pay the bill out of concern for possible damage to his property, which turned the situation sour. Many X users conjectured that the girl may have been hired by the restaurant owner to carry out the scam as the victim’s story gained popularity on social media.
