The first e-water taxi in the country is set to be introduced in Mumbai on August 1. The services will be available between the Gateway of India and JNPT. The water taxi will reduce travel time to Mumbai’s New Airport, which is expected to be operational from September this year.
The Maharashtra Government had planned to introduce water taxis. Accordingly, the facility will be available from the Gateway of India to JNPT and the Domestic Cruise Terminus to JNPT. The services will be extended to Belapur, Gharpuri, and Mandva in phases.
The 13.27 X 3.05 meter taxi will have a seating capacity of 24 travellers, and can be operated at a speed of 14 nautical miles per hour. The battery of 64 KW, once charged will can be used for four hours. The taxis are eco-friendly, time-saving, and cheaper.
