The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived the standard Rs. 50 fee for online Aadhaar updates until December 14. During this period, Indian residents have the opportunity to modify or correct their demographic information-such as name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, and email-through the online portal without any charges.
However, while updating all the demographic details in Aadhaar is free and can be done online, individuals who need to update their photograph, iris, or other biometric details must still visit an Aadhaar enrollment center in person and pay the applicable fee. This requirement is due to the fact that biometric updates require the use of specialized equipment at enrollment centers to scan fingerprints, iris patterns, and other biometric data. Additionally, the biometric update process also includes necessary verification procedures to prevent potential fraudulent activities.
