In a national symposium on Tropical Meteorology (TROPMET -23) held at Birla Auditorium, BIT, Jaipur during 22-24 November 2023. Dr. Ravindra Akre presented a paper on “An assessment of solar radiation over Vidarbha”. Vidarbha is as gifted a perfect source of solar energy by nature; it has about 300 sunny days in a year and an annual
average temperature of 30 deg. Celsius. The annual average values of DTRAD solar radiation of Global, Diffused, and Direct 17.35 mega Joule/m2 / year, 8.05 mega Joule/m2 / year and 9.39 mega Joule/ m2 / year were recorded respectively over Nagpur. He pointed out that during the decade 2011-2020, solar radiation has been found to increase at the rate of 0.044 mega Joules per sq. meter as compared to
the last two decades. It is good news for boosting to generation of solar power energy over Vidarbha?. Incresies of diffused energy is importance, as diffused energy is useful to generate solar electric power through Photovoltaic Panels (PV). It is estimated that 1kw solar energy per day can be generated 1kW solar power from 3-4 PV panels, it is the cheapest renewable source of energy, this is not only renewable but also maintains ecology and environmental conditions
and does not contribute to the global warming that is the biggest challenge to save
the earth in present scenario, needful urgent action. He also concluded that the trends of Bright Hours Sunshine (BHSS) have been observed to decrease at the rate of -0.024 per year which is an anxiety for the agricultural sector; and can adverse impact on crop conditions and production. However, in his research, he pointed out that Sunshine Hours getting an average of 7.12 hours per day over Vidarbha. He added that in Vidarbha; Orange, Mausambi, Paddy, Wheat, Cotton, and Soyabine are cultivated in large and it requires 6-8 hours of sunshine per day. He found in previous research that the decreasing trends have been created due to atmosph
