In response to concerns about the emergence of the new COVID-19 variant JN. 1, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has prepared its health infrastructure. Similarly, civic body officials have appealed to citizens over 60 years of age to visit the nearest Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) and take the booster dose. In response to the Central Government’s instructions and a review by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari has instructed the Health Department to ensure the health system is prepared.
He urged citizens to remain alert and not panic because of the new variant. Cases of the new COVID-19 variant have been reported in the country. In response, the Chief Minister convened a meeting with all state administrative bodies and provided essential guidance. The Municipal Commissioner and Administrator assessed the Health Department’s operations and received updates on the current status of civic hospitals.
In light of the potential threat from the JN-1 variant, instructions were given to ensure preparedness with isolation and oxygen beds. The Commissioner also mandated planning for administering nasal booster doses to Nagpur’s senior citizens over 60. To mitigate the risks associated with the new COVID-19 variant, citizens exhibiting symptoms like cold, cough, or fever are advised to seek medical advice promptly. If necessary, individuals should opt for an RT-PCR test to rule out the threat of COVID-19.
