Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh has announced that as of Monday, it is mandatory for all packaged commodities to display the “date of manufacturing” and the “unit sale price.”
In the past, businesses could choose to print the “date of manufacturing,” “date of import,” or “date of packaging” on the goods that were packaged. According to the most recent announcement from the Consumer Affairs Ministry, businesses must now only print the “date of manufacturing” and the “unit sale price.”
“Since packaged items are sold in different quantities, it is important that consumers are aware about the ‘unit sale price’ of what is packed and make an informed purchase decision,” the secretary of consumer affairs told PTI.
By printing the manufacturing date, consumers will be better able to make informed purchasing decisions by knowing how old the packaged item is. In a similar vein, customers will find it simpler to determine the cost if the unit sale price is printed.
Likewise, a packaged good that weighs less than one kilogram will have a sale price per gram in addition to the product’s total MRP.
