Realising the importance of study in microbiology, particularly in virology in depth, they are being introduced in Ayurved and may be in Unani and Siddha medicine courses. Although the subject is being introduced as an elective subject in Ayurved courses, it is likely to be incorporated in courses in Unani and Siddha medicine.
The AYUSH Ministry of Government of India decided to include Basics in Microbiology in Ayurved from the next academic session. The National Commission for Indian Science Medicine requested the Microbiologists Society of India (MBSI) to design the curriculum.
The team of MBSI team led by Dr Sanjeev Patankar from Nagpur designed the course content for the BAMS degree course. The other members of the team were Dr Bela Nabar from Mumbai, Dr Minal Trivedi from Gujarat, Dr Dilecha D’Costa from Goa, Dr A Archana from Delhi, and Dr Dhanasekaran from Tiruchirapalli.
The team has submitted five modules, with study material and MCQs, along with videos on the subject. The course contents are available on the website https//ncism electives.org.
