According to a report released on Tuesday, cautious hiring sentiments in the IT, BPO, education, retail, and healthcare sectors resulted in a 16 percent decline in white collar hiring in India in December compared to the same period last year.
“Hiring activity in December increased marginally sequentially by 2% from November, which infuriated non-IT sectors. Naukri.Com Chief Business Officer Pawan Goyal said, evaluating the Naukri Job Speak Index, “The IT sector continued to significantly impact the index, pulling it down by 16 percent against last year signalling a longer wait for a complete recovery in IT hiring.”
The BPO, education, retail, and healthcare sectors showed caution, according to the Naukri JobSpeak Index.
According to the report, hiring in the IT industry followed the pattern observed in the second half of 2023.The industry saw a 21% decrease in hiring in December 2023 compared to the same month the previous year and a 4% decrease in hiring from November 2023.
Nevertheless, despite a cautious job market for the IT industry, some job roles that saw decent hiring included full stack data scientist, IT infrastructure engineer, and automation engineer.
