The NHAI has been instructed by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court to fix the service roads of all highways that converge in Nagpur, including the Nagpur-Amravati, Nagpur-Bhandara, and Nagpur-Umred routes.
Advocate Arun Patil, a former president of the High Court Bar Association, filed a public interest lawsuit pointing out the awful state of the Amravati-Akola highway. A division bench consisting of Justices Nitin Sambre and Abhay Mantri noted during the petition hearing that the service roads were also unusable in addition to the highways.
The court noted that weekly markets and truck parking are improper uses of these service roads. The high court further noted that improper maintenance was done on the service roads that connected the villages to the main carriageway.
