Fire controlled immediately
South Eastern Central (SEC) Railway has installed an advanced fire and smoke detection and suppression system as a step towards the safety of passengers. So far more than 450 AC Coaches, Pantry and Power Cars have been equipped with this system.
SEC Railway has installed eight to ten smoke sensors in all the AC coaches, including in toilets and gangway areas. A smoke detection loop is connected to the Control Module, which automatically operates on sound alarm, light indicator preloaded announcements and brakes, which helps in halting the train and alerting the travellers. Similar systems have been installed in the power car and pantry car, which alert even before the fire could spread. Immediately on sounding of alarm two cylinders will be activated to sprinkle water mixed with nitrogen to defuse the fire.
Smoking in trains will also be controlled through this system. Smokers will be immediately caught.
The advanced system has been installed in Bilaspur-Nagpur Vande Bharat Express; Chhattisgarh Express, Sampark Kranti Express, Shivnath Express, Bilaspur-Patna Express, Bilaspur-Pune Express, Janshatabdi and AC Coaches attached to 28 pair of trains. This includes 14 pairs of trains under the Bilaspur Zone, 13 of Raipur Zone and one under Nagpur Zone, informs a press note issued by the SEC Railways.
