The tigress which killed two women in South Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra has been held by the Forest Department officials.
The tigress had killed Sushama Devdas Mandal (55), a resident of Chintalpeth and Ramabai Munjamkar (55), of Kondsapur in Gadchiroli district. Both were attacked when they were working in an agricultural field. The women were attacked on January 15, following which fear gripped the villagers in the region.
The forest officials were informed about the incidents. A team of Forest Department personnel led by Dr Ravikant Khobragade caught the tigress around 10 pm on January 18.
The man-animal conflict is growing in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts. Recently the tigers have moved towards southern parts of Gadchiroli from north. The Forest Department is also thinking of relocating tigers to others parts, as their number has increased in the jungles of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur district.
