Six women feared died as their boat turned turtle in the midst of the Wainganga River on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred when the women were crossing the river in Ganpur village in Chamorshi taluka of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. Deadbody of one was found, while the search for others was in progress.
The women were crossing the river to harvest chilies on the other side of the river. The villagers are required to use ferry boats as there is no bridge across the river. Their boat carrying six women workers capsized in the river. The commander (also called Helmsman) of the boat tried to save one of them. She was brought to the shore. However, she died on the way. The helmsman, however, swam to the shore.
Chamorshi police rushed to the spot with a rescue team. The search for the five women who were swept away was in progress.
