Nagpur Cyber police have arrested three accused, including a Nigerian cyber thug who defrauded a person of Rs 40.64 lakh by creating a woman’s profile on a matrimony site. After two and a half years, the police succeeded in arresting the accused.
The arrested accused has been identified as Collins Valentine Amaechi (42), resident of Vasant Kunj, Delhi, Sushil Rajendra Nagar (31), resident of Jahangirpura, Delhi and Vishal Harish Kumar (33).
The police had registered a case on July 10, 2021, on the complaint of Sunil Deulkar, resident of Manish nagar. Sunil’s brother Sushil had uploaded his profile on Bharat Matrimony site for marriage. Through this, the accused contacted Sushil in the name of a woman named Suchitra Das. There was a discussion between the two about marriage. After this, Sushil was informed about sending a parcel worth Rs 70.94 lakh from Green Light Transworld Courier New Jersey.
The accused told Sushil that the sent parcel had reached Delhi Airport and was stopped by the Customs Department. If it is not redeemed after paying custom duty, double the amount will have to be paid.
The accused first demanded 1 lakh US dollars. In the name of various charges including custom duty, Rs 40.64 lakh was taken from him through NEFT, UPI, RTGS and cheque. Sushil came to know of the fraud when he did not receive the parcel. On his complaint, the police registered a case against an unknown accused under the Fraud and IT Act and obtained the statements of the bank accounts. The account was opened in the name of Sushil Nagar.
When Sushil was taken into custody, it was found that he had opened the account at the behest of Vishal. When the police detained Vishal, Collins was found. The police arrested the three accused from Delhi and brought them to Nagpur. The court ordered to keep them in police custody till 2 February. Collins is the leader of this gang. He opens bank accounts in the names of different people and pays commission on the defrauded amount. Police suspect that the accused have cheated more people in a similar manner.
