Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had sent a letter to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia requesting him to consider starting a direct flight from Nagpur to Singapore to boost the economic development of Vidarbha, especially in the IT Sector.
Responding positively to the letter of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Jyotiraditya Scindia has informed through the letter that in view of the viable demand of development of Vidarbha, Indian Airlines has been informed to start direct flights from Nagpur to Singapore.
The letter further states that any airport designated as a ‘call point’ for a foreign airline in the ASA can be operated in India on a ‘ne-end’ basis.
Currently, Nagpur is not available as a ‘call point’ for designated carriers in Singapore. The Government of India currently has a policy of encouraging more international operations by Indian carriers from non-metro points either directly or through their own domestic operations.
Although designated carriers of Singapore Airlines are not permitted to operate scheduled passenger flights from Nagpur, Indian airlines can commence operations to Singapore destinations from any international airport, including Nagpur. “Awareness is being created by informing Indian Airlines to start direct flights from Nagpur to Singapore,” he said in the letter.
