Delhi Public School Kamptee Road, Nagpur hosted an Inter-School Chess Championship – 2024 which provided a platform to its students to improve their logical thinking, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Young budding students from Grades II to XII participated in this championship. It was a two-day event, scheduled on 2nd and 3rd February, 2024 in the school premises.
Mr. Akash Thakur, the Olympiad Coach and Captain of Angola National Women’s Team, who also was the All India Inter University champion and captain of Nagpur University in 2004, was the Chief Guest for the event.
The highly enthusiastic students from 18 different schools participated in the championship. The students were divided into groups according to their grades. They followed the Swiss League rules and were judged by the Chief Arbiter Mr. Pravin Pantavne. It was indeed quite heart-warming to see the students playing their moves like stalwarts with rapt concentration and collected demeanour.
The winners on Day 1 of the championship were students from DPS Kamptee Road, Nagpur with a whooping 12 points. Somalwar High School was adjudged the 1st Runners-Up with 9 points and Indian Olympiad School, Bhilgaon was the 2nd Runners-Up with 6 points. From the primary level, DPS Kamptee Road, Nagpur bagged the first position while Shri Guru Harikrishna Public School bagged the Runners-Up title. The participating schools were appreciated and congratulated by the Principal, Mrs. YogeetaUmalkar. The students were filled with a sense of achievement and zeal at the conclusion of Day 1. It was indeed a high-paced, intellectually stimulating day that concluded with high rewards and anticipation for Day 2 of the championship.
