A day after former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, he was nominated for Rajya Sabha by the party. With Chavan, BJP also nominated party president J P Nadda from Gujarat. The party released a list of seven candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls.
Besides Chavan Medha Kulkarni and Dr Ajit Gopchhade were nominated from Maharashtra. The other three candidates are Govindbhai Dholkia, Jashvantsinh Salamsinh Parmar, and Mayankbhai Nayak from Gujarat.
Chavan tendered his resignation as a member of the Indian National Congress and also as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Son of former Chief Minister Shankarrao Chavan, Ashok Chavan was Chief Minister of Maharashtra twice. During his first term, he resigned after the ‘Adardha’ scandal in Mumbai surfaced.
