Deputy commissioner of traffic Shashikant Satav assured the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court that the police would ensure that traffic regulations were strictly followed in the city to avoid mishaps.
The court asked him to file a detailed affidavit on the submission before February 28. While hearing a public interest litigation filed by a vigilant citizen, Sundeep Radhakrishna, a division bench consisting of Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Abhay Mantri had observed that the traffic police were going light on traffic rule violators.
“While city traffic police are busy issuing challans and collecting fines, they ignore violators who drive vehicles on the wrong side of the road”, the High Court had commented and issued summons to the deputy commissioner of traffic directing him to remain present in the court on February 14.
Accordingly, DCP traffic Satav appeared before the court. He assured the court of the traffic department’s readiness in ensuring that rules were adhered to and said that several steps had been initiated for implemen- tation of traffic regulations. HC granted him time till Feb- ruary 28 to file a detailed ac- tion plan.
