Beyond the Badge: Traffic Police Upgrade Skills in CPR for Safer Roads
In a commendable collaboration, Shalinitai Meghe Hospital & Research Centre, an 895-bedded hospital attached to Datta Meghe Medical College, Wanadongri, teamed up with Nagpur Traffic Police to organize a ‘Basic Life Support’ Workshop at Police Headquarters, Katol Road Nagpur, in celebration of the 35th Traffic Police Day. This initiative aimed to benefit our police brethren, with approximately 200 traffic police personnel participating and gaining crucial life-saving insights.
The workshop, inaugurated by Dr. Ravinder Singhal, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Nagpur, emphasized the critical role of immediate response in life-saving situations. Acknowledging the dedication and service of traffic police personnel, the CPR camp held on Traffic Police Day paid tribute to their essential role in not only managing traffic but also providing life-saving assistance during emergencies.
Dr. Adeeba Siddique, Trainer from Datta Meghe Medical College, along with Br. Vicky, conducted the training program. With a focus on hands-on CPR training, participants learned chest compressions and rescue breathing techniques. Basic Life Support (BLS) was the core of the training, covering emergency management of cardiac arrest, shock, bleeding, and choking. A comprehensive demo cum interactive session, featuring a mannequin, allowed participants to practice and enhance their understanding of life-saving techniques.
Dr. Anup Marar, Director-SMHRC, commended Nagpur Police, led by Dr. Sandeep Shinde, CMO Incharge- Police Hospital, for organizing this staff welfare program. The camp highlighted the vital role of immediate response in life-saving situations, recognizing that traffic police personnel are often the first responders in accidents and emergencies.
Dr. Naresh Gill, Deputy Director (Community Services)-SMHRC, emphasized the primary goal of the CPR camp – to equip traffic police personnel with essential skills, enabling them to respond effectively and potentially save lives on the road.
This collaborative effort between SMHRC and Nagpur Traffic Police underscores their commitment to community healthcare excellence. Shri. Jayesh Bhandarkar, Asst. Commissioner of Traffic, appreciated the practical applicability of CPR skills in the daily duties of traffic police personnel, showcasing a shared commitment to the health and safety of those in the challenging role of traffic policing.
