An 11-year-old boy from Ukhali village in Hingna tehsil tragically died after being bitten by a cat on Saturday evening. The victim, identified as Shreyanshu Krishna Pendam, a resident of Ukhali, had returned home around 6 pm after playing with friends.
He informed his mother that a cat attacked him and bit his leg while he was playing. When they heard, his parents quickly took him to Lata Mangeshkar Hospital in Digdoh, where the doctors declared him dead. They moved his body to AIIMS for a post-mortem examination. After receiving information about the incident, Hingana police registered it as an accidental death. They said they would find out the cause of death after the post-mortem.
Dr. Praveen Padve stated that the incident of a cat bite resulting in death is rare and extremely tragic. He explained that typically, a cat bite does not lead to death in such a short time. However, due to the fear of the cat attack, the child began vomiting quickly. If the vomit does not exit and enters the respiratory tract, it poses a risk of respiratory arrest and subsequently, a heart attack. Dr. Padve also mentioned that bites from other venomous animals could be a factor. Additionally, even a minor wound on the leg can lead to fatal consequences due to traumatic injury. The exact cause of death is uncertain at present and will be determined by the postmortem report, according to Tehsil Medical Officer Praveen Padve.
