The Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court has quashed suspension order of Dr Subhash Chaudhari, Vice-Chancellor of RTM Nagpur University. The suspension order has been quashed as the procedure for his suspension has not been followed. The court, however, has granted a period of four weeks for enforcement of the order.
Dr Chaudhari, thus has been granted a relief of four weeks. The Chancellor’s office may submit details of the reasons for suspension or may review the procedure followed for his suspension within four weeks.
Dr Chaudhari was suspended by the Chancellor and Governor of Maharashtra Ramesh Bais on February 21. He is facing charges of mismanagement and abuse of his powers for favouring certain agencies and persons. A major allegation is favouring MKCL (Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited) and security services agencies. He is also charged with violating the university rules against some members of the University Senate.
Dr Chaudhari moved the High Court against his suspension. The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court consisting of Justice Anil Kilor and Justice M S Jawalkar stayed enforcement of its order for four weeks.
The Government Pleader Adv Deven Chauhan pleaded to keep in abeyance the court order for four weeks, which was accepted. Adv Atharva Manohar, who appeared for Dr Chaudhari strongly opposed the demand.
