The Maharashtra government, in a recent decision, has initiated the renaming of seven suburban railway stations in Mumbai. These changes are part of a broader initiative to modernize identities and honor historical legacies.
Here are the proposed name changes:
1. Curry Road station to be renamed Lalbaug station
2. Sandhurst Road station to be renamed Dongri station
3. Marine Lines station to be renamed Mumbadevi station
4. Charni Road station to be renamed Girgaon station
5. Cotton Green station to be renamed Kalachowki station
6. Dockyard station to be renamed Mazagaon station
7. Kings Circle station to be renamed Tirthankar Parshvanath station
Once approved by the Maharashtra Legislature, these proposals will be forwarded to the Union Home Ministry and Railways for clearance and subsequent implementation.
