The 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be held from April 19 to June 1 in seven phases, the Election Commission of India announced on Saturday. The results will be declared on June 4.
With this, the Model Code of Conduct will now come into effect.
The voting for the first phase will be held on April 19, second phase on April 26, third phase on May 7, fourth phase on May 13, fifth phase on May 20, sixth phase on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1.
The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
The Elections Commission has worked for over two years to prepare for the elections. The preparations is not limited to preparing electoral rolls, but included measures to control corruption, suspicious transactions, violence etc.. The agencies including commercial airports, Railways, roads will be under strict vigilance to prevent corruption in the form of cash and other goods.
The Election Commission is also taking all the measures to make the entire process environmental-friendly. The social media and people have right to criticise the politicians and the Election Commission. But stern action will be initiated for any kind of misleading or fake news. The machinery has readied itself for preventive steps.
Political parties have been given guidelines to be followed to bring to the notice of the star campaigners. Issue based and inspiring campaigning should be promoted. Hate speeches, comments relating to religion, caste, sects should be avoided.
